On a chilly Wednesday this week I set off to the Lakes to see a special place..
It was the view I had painted for Lynsey Ford's design for Willow Cottage at Another Place Hotel.
I got to see the finished suite with the mural of my painting; it looks so beautiful with classic dark walls; coppers and oranges for warmth and the view of the lake invited in with a new large window.
I first visited the hotel last summer and made some sketches for the final painting.
Lynsey and I had chatted about colour palette and we were both excited about the rust tones in the grasses.
So I thought about those colours against the cooler backdrop of the water and hills whilst I was painting.
This was my finished piece ( it is available as a giclée print). I enjoyed painting the textures and the movement of the water.
The lake is a really important part of the hotel; with midnight swims, paddle boarding and all sorts of activities available.
They have also built a beautiful glass house with vegetable beds next to it; they can use these for the meals cooked at the hotel.
Here is one last drawing I made this week. It was quite cold; a little reminder of winter down by the water, but I really wanted to capture the lake; even if it was just a note for later.
