Shall I tell you a story?

Posted by Julia Ogden on

A quarter of a century ago I graduated with a BA Honours in Illustration. I had a head full of stories and looked at everything in detail, breaking down colours and shapes in things that flashed before me; glimpses on trains, someones brief stance, the ever changing skies.

Twenty five years on I realise I will always look at the world this way. My old college at Edinburgh hosted an alumni day on last Friday and everything felt full circle. It was so inspiring. There were lots of talks including ones from my old tutors; Jill Calder and Sarah Ogilvie.

I can't believe I walked through this beautiful hall everyday to go to my studio. We had an exhibition here of past and present students work. It was so nice to see my work on the walls.

The day ended in the student union "The Wee Red Bar" where I spent many a night!

The next day I got my fill of art and went to some of the galleries including Modern One and Two and the National Gallery..

I love this performance piece by Bruce McLean; "I want my crown"

I did some drawing in the cafe!
I saw this beauty by James Paterson.
And this really inspiring abstract landscape by Arthur Melville.
I did more drawing...
And made my way home with a head full of ideas. What a lovely time!
