All the Little Things

In the Springtime..

Posted by Julia Ogden on

So along with people who have bought summer seating, spring clothes and barbecues, I have probably contributed to the snow this week as I decided at the beginning I would write a blog about my Spring paintings.. About this time last year when lockdown was all weird and new, the sun came out. I remember delivering local orders; walking paths I had never trodden with my phone in hand, optimistically following arrows. The woods were full of blue..  At the same time I was commissioned to paint some bluebell woods. It was such a lovely painting to do for the...

Screen printing

Posted by Julia Ogden on

I have been really focussed on my painting lately, so I thought it would be nice to look back on some of my screen prints. Screen printing was my first love. At Edinburgh College of Art I was always in the print room. My studio

I am easing back into working in my studio. I feel so blessed to have it; the windows are amazing. Obviously with lockdown it felt better to work at home, because I have a desk there and don't need much else. I never knew when I painted this; that it would take on a life of its own. Last year I got a call from an interior designer explaining that she was currently filming Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr and would like to use one of my paintings in her design scheme. It was for a restaurant in my hometown; Chapter 17. I was flattered to be asked and Lynsey (Lynsey Ford Designs) was really lovely to work with. The process and end result can be seen on this episode. It is such a beautiful space and I can't wait to go and...

Moons and multiples

Posted by Julia Ogden on

I have always felt much more at ease making multiple drawings and paintings. My sketchbooks at college were filled with pages that flowed and linked yet when it came to a final piece I seized up. Maybe it was the pressure. So now I try and approach my artwork as sketchbook pages; part of a bigger theme not just one statement. One of the themes I return to time and again is the moon. I started drawing it as a development from the circles I was using in my prints; it was the perfect circle; with detail and meaning. Kingfisher...
